Decentered Media Safeguarding Policy

1. Policy Statement

Decentered Media is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals who engage with our services and activities. We recognize our responsibility to safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and adults at risk by committing to a practice that protects them.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all staff, including senior managers, paid staff, volunteers, sessional workers, agency staff, students, or anyone working on behalf of Decentered Media.

3. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:
– Protect children, young people, and adults at risk who receive Decentered Media’s services.
– Provide staff and volunteers with the overarching principles that guide our approach to safeguarding.

4. Legal Framework

This policy has been drawn up based on law and guidance that seeks to protect children and adults at risk, including the Children Act 1989, the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, and the Care Act 2014.

5. Principles

– The welfare of the child or adult at risk is paramount.
– All people, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation, or identity, have the right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.
– Working in partnership with children, young people, adults at risk, and their parents, carers, and other agencies is essential in promoting welfare.

6. Prevention

Decentered Media will ensure that all staff and volunteers are carefully selected, trained, and supervised.

7. Reporting Concerns

All concerns about the welfare of children or adults at risk should be reported immediately to the safeguarding coordinator.

8. Confidentiality

Confidentiality shall be upheld in line with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR, and information relating to safeguarding concerns will be shared on a need-to-know basis.

9. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary.
